Building Services Consultancy of the Year

This award recognises the consultancy which has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the design or refurbishment of buildings to meet client expectations of performance, including occupant satisfaction, comfort and energy performance, throughout the life of the building.


Eligibility

Entries for this category should be based on the consultancy services delivered during the period 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013.

Entries must be accompanied by testimonials from clients and other partners such as contractors, and other participants in the supply chain.

Entries should demonstrate how the organisation meets client requirements and set out how they deliver engineering excellence, sustainable construction and operation and energy efficient performance. Entries will describe how the organisation supports delivery of these objectives through its processes, training and development, and adoption of new technologies and ways of working. It will provide recent evidence of customer satisfaction and of current practical use of building performance measurement tools such as DECs, CIBSE TM22, ‘Soft Landings’ or other post occupancy evaluation tools and CarbonBuzz.


Judging Criteria

The judges will be looking for evidence of ‘best practice’ as well as commitment to achieving ever-improving building performance and reducing low carbon impacts:

  • Investment in the recruitment, training and development of staff
  • Processes to ensure the acquisition, development and transfer of knowledge and experience within the consultancy
  • Use of new technology and applications, innovative building techniques or processes across lighting, heating, cooling or other services
  • Specific energy management measures taken to improve the building performance
  • The introduction and use of collaborative tools and processes between your own and external members of project teams that has contributed to improved performance
  • Environmental specification/purchasing policy
  • Low carbon, energy efficient and building performance accreditations
  • Evidence of the practical use of building performance measurement tools such as DECs, CIBSE TM22, Soft Landings or other post occupancy evaluation tools and CarbonBuzz.
  • Encouraging clients to commit to exceed minimum standards for their projects
  • Use of a thorough, systematic commissioning process to ensure that a new or renovated building operates efficiently and to the original performance specification from when it is first occupied and in use
  • Evidence of client and occupant satisfaction with completed projects
  • Examples of applying the advice that you provide to clients within your own business
